A Day in the Life of an Architecture Student

Baltimore, MD (June 20, 2017) – On April 14, Baltimore area high school students were invited to the Morgan State School of Architecture and Planning to experience a day in the life of an architecture student.
Organized by Morgan State architecture student Sumayyah Raji, the program invited high school students to attend classes and interact with peers and faculty as regular college students. Morgan State student volunteers served as the faculty, engaging students in different classroom exercises. The students were taught how to express their ideas in plan and section, and the history of Morgan State University and how black architects have contributed to Morgan’s campus. At the end of the day, students participated in a group presentation.
Through the program, students gained a better understanding of the ins and outs of life as an architecture student. The program sparked an interest in careers in architecture and design by taking the students out of their classrooms and exposing them to studio culture and student life.
Event sponsored by the AIABaltimore Future Architects Resources committee (FAR), AIAS and the Baltimore Architecture Foundation. Special thanks to Morgan State professors Adam Bridge, Gabriel Kroiz and Dale Green.
