Why was it important for you to take part in CivicLAB?
The program was a great networking and educational tool for civic-minded designers. I enjoyed learning alongside other advocates to explore ideas and share experiences. The program expanded my understanding of AIA’s advocacy role at the state and national level.
Since participating in CivicLAB what new Leadership opportunities have you discovered?
Professionally, I have provided design assistance for a few Technical Advisory Panel sessions through the Baltimore Chapter of Urban Land Institute. I have served as co-chair of AIA Baltimore’s Urban Design Committee. On the home front, I am a coach and scout leader.
How can architects/designers become better Advocates for the profession and the built environment?
Advocates need to be organized and committed to the task. Those who are making change happen to have great time-management and communication skills. They are capable of encouraging others to join and work together to accomplish great things.
What makes this an exciting time to be a Citizen Architect in Baltimore?
Cities are dynamic and ever-changing. It always feels like a good time to be civic-minded and engaged in organizations and communities to create a more humane and sustainable city.
Any hobbies outside of leadership, advocacy, architecture?
I enjoy hiking, traveling and playing sports with family and friends.
