Social Responsibility Continues in Graduate Architecture at Morgan State

Seven candidates for the Master of Architecture degree at Morgan State University have proficiently completed terminal design projects.

Guided by the instruction of Ruth Connell, AIA, Associate Professor at Morgan’s Graduate Program of Architecture, and assisted by many open-hearted mentor architects, each student tackled a problem linked to social responsibility.

Social responsibility in design has been the focus of the Graduate Program of Architecture for almost three decades, beginning with the program’s initial candidacy for NAAB accreditation in 1991. Current degree candidates have admirably continued the tradition. Project topics were formulated and researched during the fall semester with instructors Dr. Mohammad Gharipour and Coleman Jordan. The degree candidates are Richard Allen, Jessica Batista De Freitas, David Bloch, Naomi Hemme, Benjamin Riniker, Faranak Sanaei, and Alexander Wong.

Participating mentor architects are Mike Heytens, AIA and TaeJun Kim, AIA of Hord Coplan Macht; Jason Knight of Laundry Group Inc., Ethan Marchant, AIA and Nakita Reed, AIA of Quinn Evans; Anngelica Mohabir IIDA and David Plent of Moseley Architects; James B. Pettit, Jr., AIA Emeritus; and Evan Wivell, AIA of EastWing Architects.

AIA Baltimore will be highlighting the seven Morgan State graduates in each of its upcoming summer newsletters.
