Job Posting: Downtown Baltimore Design Planner (City of Baltimore)

The City of Baltimore Department of Planning is in search of a Downtown Baltimore Planner
within our Land Use and Urban Design Division. This Design Planner will function as the
Community Planner for the Downtown District. This newly expanded district includes the
Downtown Core, Inner Harbor, Harbor East, Jonestown, and Perkins/Somerset/Old town
CHOICE Redevelopment Area. We are looking to hire at or around the starting salary for this
position, this is an exciting opportunity to use your urban design skills to continue the growth of
these neighborhoods and participate in their redevelopment.


• Facilitate the development and design review process of major projects within this district
and City-wide.

• Coordinate meetings, prepare analytical reports, design plans for proposed development
projects including zoning analysis, architectural design, and site/landscape design.

• Liaise between Community Organizations within the Downtown geography and development organizations, City Agencies, and the Department of Planning.

• Demonstrate expertise in Urban Design to other Planning Department Divisions and City

• Lead Planning and Design Review processes related to the development sites within the
geography and large scale projects City-wide.

• Manage development projects to ensure compliance with applicable zoning regulations,
urban design guidelines and land use development policies.


• Knowledge of urban planning, design, and landscape architecture principles with an
understanding of current design trends with the ability to prepare and review detailed
development plans is required.

• Strong communication and graphic skills with the ability to work independently is


• A bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning,
urban design, environmental design or environmental studies and two years of experience
performing planning work.

• A master’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning,
urban design, environmental design, or environmental studies and one year of experience
performing planning work.
