Urban Design Committee seeks proposals for Urban Design Showcase

The Urban Design Showcase, hosted by AIA Baltimore’s Urban Design Committee, brings together architects, urban designers, citizens, developers, and other stakeholders to celebrate the best in urban design. This collaborative spirit is essential for creating successful and sustainable communities. By sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and fostering partnerships, we can work together to help lift up Baltimore.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:
We invite architects, urban designers, planners, landscape architects, engineers, developers, and community advocates to submit their projects for inclusion in the showcase.

Eligible projects should:
● Focus on the Baltimore region and fall into one of the following categories – urban design project, planning program, civic improvements, campus plans, environmental programs, redevelopment project, or other similar project,
● Highlight themes of equitable development and community impact,
● Be designed or implemented within the past five years (incomplete projects may be submitted if a significant portion has been completed, implemented, or adopted by a local jurisdiction or authority), and
● Be submitted as a single PDF document by September 30.

WHAT MATTERS:
● Equitable Development: Submissions should prioritize social and economic justice, creating spaces that are accessible, affordable, and inclusive for all.
● Quality of Life: Submissions should offer solutions that enhance the quality of life, including creating safe and walkable neighborhoods, providing access to green spaces and recreational facilities, and fostering a sense of community.
● Human-Centered Design: Submissions should emphasize the importance of designs that consider and engage the needs and aspirations of all residents.
● Smart Planning: Submissions should advocate for sustainable and resilient urban development strategies that address the challenges of climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequality.

Submission deadline: September 30, 2025

Submission fee: $30 AIA/ASLA members; $50 non-members

Submission requirements:
