Call For Volunteers: The Office of Sustainability Seeks Designers

The Office of Sustainability has put out a call for volunteer designers to help schools design safely distanced outdoor learning spaces.

The Baltimore Office of Sustainability (BOS) has partnered with Baltimore City Public Schools to support the design and implementation of outdoor learning spaces at schools around the city. The Baltimore Outdoor Learning Program (BOLP) was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to help schools create dynamic, lasting spaces for students to more safely return to in-person learning while promoting access to the health and academic benefits associated with spending time outside.

BOS is currently piloting this program with 6 schools, providing funding, planning resources, and technical assistance to each school, and is now planning to expand the program to 4-8 additional schools in 2021. We have paired each pilot school with volunteer landscape architects from local firms and universities to assist in the visioning and design process, and with the expansion of the program, we are now looking for additional volunteer landscape architects to help the next round of schools plan outdoor spaces!

If you, your firm, or anyone else in your networks would be interested in participating in BOLP as a volunteer landscape architect, please contact Anika Richter at anika.richter@baltimorecity.gov
